But Paul seems to say that cosmic evil forces, the 'rulers of this aeon,' crucified Jesus out of ignorance (1 Cor 2.8). And furthermore, he claims those who are baptized in Jesus' death are freed from the powers of these cosmic rulers (Gal 4.3). I read Paul as being firmly set within the context of Jewish Apocalypticism, where cosmic forces oppose one another -- God and the 'rulers of this age.'
