Re his comment that "Wilson proposed “intermediary” but without much success", Susannah Ticciati has a book out on Job (Job and the Disruption of Identity) where she explores the role of arbiter/referee as the role of prophet. The data are sparse - limited to Job and Ezekiel - but I think quite convincing that she is on to something.
She is less famous than her precocious younger brother but this one book is a keeper.
